Tips & Tricks for Attending Generation Beauty

Happy  Thursday!  With Generation Beauty LA 2017 around the corner.  Tia and I wanted to provide you with some tips and tricks to get the most out of your experience.  We have attended it since the beginning, so we have figured out ways to make the most our of our trip.  We thought that they might work for you as well.

Travel

If you do not live close to the venue and will be making travel plans, I suggest going with friends to split the cost and keep expenses at a minimum.  You can easily split the cost of the hotel and transportation.  Once you get into the city where they are holding the event, you need to think about transportation from the airport.  Depending on where you stay, some hotels might provide a free shuttle, but most won’t.  With that being said, I would suggest using Super Shuttle.

Super Shuttle provides versatile rides for a solo traveler or a big group.  They have many different options to choose from, like shared shuttle, non-stop shuttle, black car, or black SUV.  They offer services in most major cities and some international.  The experience I had using Super Shuttle was great because they are very easy to locate at the airport and get you to your destination in a timely manner.

There’s usually a few of us who get together for Generation Beauty, so make sure everyone’s flights arrive the same time to take a Super Shuttle to the hotel together.  It’s a very affordable option and split between you and your friends- win, win!  This also provides lots of extra room for luggage!  It really is travel made easy.

Attire

You’re going to an almost all day event, but let’s be real..we’re girls!  But, there is no rule that says you can’t look cute, glam, and comfortable.  One of our favorite places to shop is AMI Clubwear.  AMI clubwear has everything from clubwear to cute and casual.  This site is really affordable with pretty great quality items.  Tia and I decided that we wanted to dress up on the first day of Generation Beauty.  We scored some pretty amazing dresses from AMI Clubwear for cheap.

We both ordered some beautiful dresses from AMI Clubwear.  The dresses were made really well, flattering to our body shapes, and they were $12.00!  Crazy, right?

You can also find swimwear, shoes, costumes, and lingerie.  Another great thing about AMI is that they always have some kind of promotion running.  Right now, they are running a 50% off sale and free shipping over $50.  Check out the deals here.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you will be on your feet a majority of the time due to lines and be running from booth to booth.  You will want to wear comfortable shoes.  Believe me, your feet will be hurting.

Now that we got the basics out of the way, let’s get into our tips for the actual event.

Gen Beauty Tips

Here are tips that have helped Tia and I survive and get the best experience we possibly could at Generation Beauty.

  1. Take a look at brands attending the venue and follow them on all social media to save time at the booths.
  2. Come up with a course of action!  Make a list of all the booths/brands you want to check out first.
  3. Bring a portable phone charger, selfie light, and if you’re a vlogger/blogger bring you vlogging camera and business cards.
  4. I wouldn’t suggest bringing a huge purse, because of how much stuff you’ll be carrying.  A crossbody or wristlet will suffice.
  5. Bring a snack and water bottle
  6. Eat something before heading out.
  7. Don’t drive!  The venues are in busy areas with expensive parking.  Save yourself the trouble and Lyft it!  Click here to get the app.  Lyft was also partnered with Ipsy and Gen Beauty SF.
  8. Arrive a couple hours early.  For Gen beauty SF, I arrived at 8:30.  Keep in mind doors usually, do not open till 11.  The sooner you arrive, the better.
  9. If you didn’t get a chance to eat before heading out to the event, then have a friend or yourself run to get coffee and some food.  There are food carts at the venue.
  10. Hit the more known brands first, because their lines will fill up fast.
  11. When you’re in a long line, have one person in your group hold your place in line, while they go check out the smaller brands groups.  Switch off!  This is the best way to work the lines.
  12. Go both days because usually, you’ll get different things.
  13. Sundays are more relaxed and not as crowded. Don’t worry about going all glam on Sunday, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of all the makeovers.

I hope these tips and tricks help make the most out of the next Generation Beauty.  If you see us at any of the events, please do not hesitate to stop and say hi.  We’d love to meet you!

How I Care for My Lash Extensions

my-lash-extension-care-routine

Happy Thursday!  If you have been with us for a while, you know that back in May I was given the opportunity to try out some lash extensions.  I consistently get my lashes filled every 4-5 weeks.  Since getting my extensions, I always get asked how I take care of them.  I thought to myself, what a great post idea!  If you want to read about my lash extension experience check out my post here.

16-05-12-20-08-54-280_deco.jpg

  1. You will want to avoid direct contact with water around your eyes for 24-48 hours.
  2. To remove makeup you will want to use a non oil based remover.  My preference are Bioderma or the Garnier micellar water.  Let’s be honest, we sometimes get lazy…I use my Yes To makeup wipes.  When using makeup wipes, you need to be really careful. I use my wipes by swiping down and then up, moving in the direction of my lash line. Rubbing will cause lashes to come off.  Also avoid cotton pads, so you won’t end with little pieces of lint on your lashes.
  3. I sleep on a satin pillowcase because satin material does not pull on lashes as much as cotton does, especially if you toss and turn a lot.
  4. Get refills every 2-4 weeks.  I am a bit of a rebel and usually go around week 5.
  5.  If you would like to use mascara with your extensions, although you don’t have to.  I would suggest using a water based mascara.

Here are my top five drugstore water based mascara’s:

  1. Maybelline® Great Lash BIG® Mascara
  2. L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

  3. Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express Mascara

  4. Maybelline® Lash Sensational™ Mascara
  5. Maybellin Lash Discovery

I also have some suggestions for higher end mascara’s.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I could use all these on my extensions, because there are some pretty great ones!

  1. Benefit They’re Real!

  2. Too Faced Better Than Sex

  3. Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

  4. Diorshow Mascara

  5.  Nars Audacious Mascara

**When using mascara on your extensions, avoid applying to the roots.  You should only be applying to the tips, so it doesn’t affect the glue.**

I hope you enjoyed my little tips and tricks for keeping your extensions on longer.  If you have some tips or tricks that you use, that I didn’t mention-I’d love hear them!

How I pack my jewelry

wpid-2015-05-30-22-46-35_deco.jpgHi beauties! Keeping on topic with summer travel, I wanted to share how I pack and store my jewelry during my travels.
Prior to finding my travel jewelry case, it was a pain to travel with any jewelry! I would throw them in makeup bags, zip lock baggies, or just not bring any at all. None of these options were ideal for travel. Although my items are contained in a makeup bag and in zip lock baggies, they would still end up tangled. Not having accessories was not a fun experience either! Sometimes, all we need is the perfect necklace or earrings to make an outfit.
For my trip to California, I started to Google travel jewelry organizers. I came across one that was perfect! It is light, well made, with lots of travel compartments for all of my jewelry needs!

wpid-2015-05-30-22-47-15_deco.jpg

There are three zippered compartments, a place for bracelets/necklaces, additional ring holder, and earring slots. The jewelry travel holder provides enough room for all the items you would need to bring with you and add additional items- I love having choices!

As you can see, the earring holes worked well for, in my opinion, large hoops without interfering with my other items.

Pictured here are the four slots for bracelets and necklaces!  Love the construction of this organizer and that it provides so many placement options.

wpid-2015-05-30-22-49-35_deco.jpg

Included, but not pictured are two additional pouches to use for additional storage.  I apparently am unable to locate my footage showing this, but I used the pouches provided for my watches!  The pouches kept my watches safe from scratches. As you can see in the picture to the left, I was able to throw in a couple more jewelry pouches with some additional items that either would not fit or I wanted extra protection over.

If you are interested in the jewelry organizer you can purchase it here.  If pink isn’t your color, no big!  They offer it in black!

If you don’t travel much, this product would be a great gift for Christmas, Mother’s day, or a birthday!  I am actually purchasing one for my mom before we leave to Vegas next month! I am very excited, because I know this is something she will love and use on many occasions. How do you store your jewelry must have when you travel?  I love to know your tips and tricks!

Have a great Tuesday,

Traveling Tid Bits

image

Hey everyone, it’s your Makeupateer Tia! My fellow blogger Jacki and I are flying out to L.A. tonight for Ipsy’s Generation Beauty event. I’ve been running around the past week getting all my packing done to make sure I’m all ready to go and can have a fun relaxing time. There are a few things I make sure to do whenever I pack for a trip like this and I’d love to share them with you all!
Make sure your luggage is easily identifiable: I have 3 tags on my luggage. It’s purple (my favorite color), so that helps, but by now there are tons of people with purple luggage as its becoming a more popular color. I have 3 tags on it because your luggage often gets tossed around and a tag could easily get ripped off. I’ve actually had a suitcase lost before and gotten it back. If your luggage happens to get lost and your tag is accidentally ripped off you have two backups to ensure it will be returned to you. Plus it gives you an option to customize/accessorize your luggage. One of my tags is a cute wiener dog a girl from my beauty group gave to me; I absolutely love it, and let’s be honest how many other suitcases will have a doxi tag? This makes my bag really easy to identify at the luggage claim. Make sure to tag all your suitcases even if you don’t plan to check them, you never know if they’ll run out of space on the plane and may end up having to check your bag.
When packing your clothes roll them instead of folding: Rolling them provides for more room in your suitcase, which will let you bring more makeup! Rolling your clothes also cuts down on wrinkles if you stuff your suitcase full.
Make a list: Making a list will help packing go smoothly. This will prevent you from forgetting anything important you may need while away. I would start making your list at least two weeks prior to your travel date, this will provide you with extra time to remember and add things you missed. Don’t check off anything until it’s actually in your suitcase that way you don’t think you packed something that isn’t with you when you arrive at your destination.
Read the carry on restriction policy for your flying company: Most plane companies have restrictions on how much fluid you’re allowed to carry, as well as what kind of food you’re allowed to have on board. Some companies also have restrictions on having sharp objects in your bag, or even having glass containers. You will most likely not be able to take any open beverage or food containers through security. I would also recommend placing all fluids you have in a large gallon size bag. This will prevent a mess in case anything spills and make it easy for security to check your containers if needed.  Make sure to read the current policy the company you’re flying with has so you can be prepared.
Wear shoes that are easy to remove: When going through security make sure to wear shoes that are easy to take off and put on to speed up the process. I would also advise if at all possible to prevent wearing any clothing with a large amount of metal on it, as well as a belt. Try to make it as easy as possible on yourself to get through security quickly and hassle free.
Copy all your identification/insurance cards: Bring a copy of all of your important information with you and keep it somewhere separate from the cards on you. This is important especially when traveling overseas in case you lose any important documents you’ll have a copy with all of your info on it. If you travel overseas and lose any of you important information especially if there’s an emergency they may not let you fly home.
Get hand sanitizer and airbourne: I would highly recommend if you’re traveling via any mass transportation service or plane that you employ the use of hand sanitizer during travel and take some airbourne before you leave. With so many people sharing germs in an enclosed space it’s very easy to get sick. The use of these items will help prevent catching any travel colds while you’re away.
Toiletries-pack small or near empty: Every time I used to travel I would always run out and buy travel sizes of everything I needed and enough travel sized bottles to put everything in that I couldn’t find. I’ve found a much more cost effective and space saving way to do this. Instead of going out and buying all new products in tiny sizes I now pack products that I know are about to be thrown out. In the few months previous to my trip I will start saving products that have the amount of product I will need in them for the duration of my trip. This is actually a great alternative to buying travel products for a couple reasons. It’s much cheaper since you already have the items, and it adds space in your luggage. After you’re done using up the larger sized products instead of repacking them to take back home you can just pitch it. Most of us beauty lovers also know our shopping habits quite well and that we’ll most likely be bringing back tons of more stuff than we left with. Packing larger products you’ll throw away is a fool proof way to guarantee that you’ll have extra room for all the goodies you’ve bought. Here’s a pic of all the products I’ll be throwing away and all the extra space I’ll be gaining.
Pack an empty bag: Now why on earth would you pack empty luggage? This is a helpful trip I learned at a young age. I LOVE to shop, so I already know I’ll be bringing back extra stuff from my trip. I pack an extra bag (usually the small duffle that comes in your suitcases when you buy luggage or a backpack) just in case I go a little buy crazy and end up with not enough room. Packing an extra bag will provide you with enough room to buy whatever you want just in case you see that extra pair of boots you just haaad to buy.
I’m very excited for this trip and I can’t wait to get to see and hang out with my cross country friends. It will be wonderful to see all the great vendors they have this year at Gen Beauty! I’m curious to know if any of you are going (leave a comment please)? If so Jacki and I would love to meet you!
Until next time, stay beautiful ya’ll,
Makeupateer Tia
