New Year, New Goals!

Happy New Year!  We are a bit late to the game, but that’s okay.  We have a new look for the blog- what do you think?  We are loving the simple look of the theme and logo.  As the first goal of the year, I would say we did pretty well.  So far Tia and I are feeling accomplished with one goal down and we’re only 10 days into the new year.

Content:

We are also bringing two new series to the blog this year, Sample Sunday and Face Mask Friday’s.  Tia and I are sub box addicts, giving us lots of samples to test out.  To be honest, we have never really done anything with our samples, but we felt this would be a good way to test out new products and provide some content.  Win- win, right?

We are also going to be doing a monthly “What’s new?” This could be a drugstore or high end but be on the lookout for some new products coming your way.

Schedule:

Since we have decided to add in more regular content, we have decided to come up with a more consistent schedule that will alternate posts for Tia and I.  We will also have a guest blogger from time to time.  So we can change things up a bit.

Now, what do all these changes mean for our readers?  It allows us to provide you with more consistent content.  We are hoping for a lot more engagement, comments, views, and feedback.  We also want to be able to provide more giveaways for our subscribers, because we would not be anything without you guys!

Do you do resolutions? Goals? or maybe a word for the year?

5 Ways to De-stress

wp-1472821037594.jpg

1.  Let’s talk about lavender. Aromatherapy is one of the best proven ways to de-stress your life. It also proves to be the easiest way, I can think of ways to incorporate lavender into most everything I do throughout my day, giving myself a stress-free easy way to help soothe myself without even thinking about it the majority of the time. The L’Occitaine Lavender Perfumed Sachet is a perfect example of this, just set it and go no work done.  Put scent sachets around your home Putting Lavender scented sachets around your home can provide aromatherapy throughout your day, relieving stress. I love putting these sachets throughout my home, in drawers, closets, in my medicine cabinet. The nice scent burst is calming and refreshing throughout my day, they’re even great for the car since they don’t melt. In my drawers the scent permeates the clothes it’s near leaving them softly kissed with lavender, so the relaxing effect lasts all through my day. Little things like this can also leave a finished touch on your home. It takes 10 minutes to place them all throughout your house, the scent lasts for months, and your guests will think you’re a natural Martha Stewart.

L’Occitane has a wonderful line of lavender scented items, some of my favorites I’ll mention today!

2.  Baths are some of the best ways to relax, light some candles get some bubbles going, maybe toss in your favorite bath bomb or bath salts. It’s a nice space to be alone where you don’t have to worry about anything except what time you have to get out. Studies show that taking a bath close to/right before bedtime hinders your chances at getting the best sleep. I’m sure it sounds backwards because baths are so soothing, but if you are a night time bath person sometimes an upset to your routine can be even more stressful. My best suggestion is to get to bed earlier, get a good nights rest and wake early to start off your day earlier with a calming bath to set a more relaxed beginning to your day. In a perfect world we would all be morning people, but I know that’s not the case as I struggle to pull myself out of bed almost every day. I love to use the L’Occitaine Lavender Foaming Bath Wash in the tub where I can really see it lather up and doing its thing. The smell along with the L’occitane Lavender scented Relaxing candle is a perfect way to jump start a crazy day combating stress before it even begins.

3.  Meditation with aroma therapy when I have too many things to do sometimes it’s best to do nothing. Meditation is one of the best ways to relieve stress. Light the L’occitane Lavender scented Relaxing candle, find a quiet place and clear your mind, try to focus on your breathing. The point of meditation is to void your mind of thoughts, lavender scented candles can help calm and relax your body so that your mind is free to be at peace. Have you ever just felt overwhelmed and unable to focus on things because you’re so stressed? I find meditation to be one of the best ways to unload the heavy weight of life, which helps me prevent burnout and feeling overloaded at work.

4.   Sleep-  I know it’s not always that easy to get good sleep. Instead of trying to find time for more sleep which seems impossible, we can try to improve the quality of the sleep we already have. I would suggest against keeping lit candles in your room while you sleep due to hazard possibilities. Although I do love putting a nice calming scented candle on a wax warmer while I rest. I feel the soothing scent helps me get to sleep faster, it’s also nice to wake up to a calming lavender smell. I find using wax warmers also lengthens the use of the candle as well as being less dangerous for your home, and you can turn the heat up or down to regulate the strength of the scent in your room if you find it too strong or not pungent enough. L’Occitane has the perfect products to improve your life in the most simple of ways. Take a gander at their website and you will find an abundance of other amazing products I haven’t even had time to mention (I love the Shea Butter Hand Cream!). Aromatherapy and treating yourself to spa time can do wonders for your body as well as your mind. Do yourself the favor and relax!

5.  Music- Music is probably my favorite way to de-stress, the great thing about it is you can incorporate it into most everything you do with a simple push of a button. All the things I listed today are easy to accompany music with. Although I do suggest if you put music on to help you get to sleep that you set it on a timer that shuts it off, so once you’re asleep it doesn’t cause you to be restless as a distraction or wake you up. You can even set your wake up alarm to soothing sounds, mine is set to harp music. I find that it helps ease me into my morning which I’m never ready for when it comes. Music is such a mood effect-or, so it’s easy to see why it can be soothing. Do some research and find sounds that are most therapeutic for you in a relaxing way. We are all different and have to find what works best for us.

Voice Within

It’s Monday! Lately, we have been making posts about some serious subjects that have been happening, to those of you who this issue effects, you are not alone.

Voice Within

Do you even know if your daughter has been raped?

So many have no voice, they just accept it as their fate,

Flashbacks and memories, minutes for a lifetime,

Can’t keep a job, or focus on school, barely able to rub two dimes,

Has your soul mate, your friend, or your mom?

Their stories so chilling knowing they will never feel the calm,

A violating submission the kind that darkens your soul,

The light that was once there dimmed, almost invisible,

She’ll remember it every day, while trying to forget,

And on the rapists part there’s little regret.

All while people tell her it must have been you,

Did you flirt? Did you drink? What did YOU DO?

Or what didn’t you do, was your no loud and clear?

Because if it wasn’t, then it’s all your fault dear!

He was just getting some action, no shame in his game,

The girl is still left looking for someone to blame,

Her smile washes off at the end of the day,

With her makeup she hides that she isn’t okay,

Waiting and wondering when they will be ready to hear,

I was raped; I am one in four, more than 683,000 per year!

The police think she lies, men congratulate their pals,

Women are outraged, but the judge just calls foul,

No harm done, he’s a good guy,

He shouldn’t get caught up for some snatch on the fly,

Her control is lost, powerless is she,

Can’t afford to get it back, but the depression came free,

Her behavior becomes erratic, anxiety sets in,

She changes, you notice, the PTSD begins,

You try to ring her, but can’t get her on the phone,

She’s home, but pushes all away and feels so alone,

Even if her mind betrayed her and her memory is bare,

Her body still twitches because it was there,

You love her regardless, but do not know her fight,

You’ll never understand why she stopped going out at night,

Every day is rough, but she keeps pushing through,

We’re strong and we make it, but we are more than a few….

Conviction is a thing of rarity with this,

It’s he said she said, it was only a kiss,

She knows there’s more and a story to tell,

Listen to their whisper they shouldn’t have to yell,

When will justice be the answer for rape?

It’s been time to clear up the red tape.

Brock Turner is a fish in an ocean of injustice…..

Don’t let the world steal your beautiful…

My Amusement Park Essentials

Hi loves!  Happy Friday day!  Although, I can’t really believe that it’s Friday already. Labor day really threw my week off, but non the less- I’m glad it’s Friday! Keeping with my travel theme posts, we will be talking about theme park essentials.  My family and I are theme park junkies.  Every vacation we take, we have to at least hit up at least one park.  On our last vacation, we hit up Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Great America in Norther California.  Prior to that visit, we went to Wild Waves and Enchanted Village in Washington.  I started to think about must have items that I need to carry with me in the parks.  Without further a due, here are my essentials:
16-09-07-08-05-44-692_deco.jpgBP. Faux Leather Backpack– $55.00

I would suggest some sort of backpack.  I opted for a purse style backpack.  It isn’t too big or too small, but has a lot of for the size.  I was able to carry my essentials including my water bottle.

16-09-07-08-06-34-428_deco.jpgI would also suggest a wristlet. It provides easy access to my cards or cash, but also stays attached to my body.  Yes, I am horrible with losing things.  This particular one by Kate Spade, has enough room to carry cards, cash, coins, and my phone- if needed.

16-09-07-08-07-24-245_deco.jpg

  1. A good pair of sunnies- Theme parks are usually always in warm climates or only open during Spring/Summer seasons; for this reason a good pair of sunglasses are a must.  I opted to bring my Sunglass Warehouse sunnies ,Canary #65830 tortoise frame with amber lenses, because they are a neutral that can be paired with anything.  I love this style!  They have been my favorite since day #1.  If you don’t know much about Sunglass Warehouse, you can check out my post here.  Affordable & trendy!
  2. Sun Protection- I use to think I was too cool for SPF because I was islander.  You know, that automatically made me immune.  Obviously, I grew up and finally learned how important it is to take care of our skin.  My favorite SPF has been COOLA TRAVEL SIZE SPORT SPF 50 GUAVA MANGO SUNSCREEN SPRAY.  The smell is amazing, it has good wear time, SPF of 50, and is water resistant up to 40 minutes.  If you haven’t tried a COOLA product yet, you should!
  3. Protecting our lips from the sun is something that isn’t really talked about, but if you think about it, our lips are super have super sensitive skin and need protection.  Only fitting, right?  My holy grail lip balm is the MINERAL LIPLUX SPF 30 TAN LINE.  The mineral liplux line comes in array of colors to choose from.  I, myself, am a nude girl, but you can opt for something a little more vibrant.  With an SPF of 30, color selection, and a moisturizing feel; it’s definitely a must have for me!
  4. L’occitane hand cream and refreshing towelettes are my everyday essentials that I have to have in my purse at all times.  To be honest, I keep a hand cream in my purse, desk at work, and one in each car.  If you have not tried them before, then you absolutely need to!  Now, the story behind refreshing towelettes- YOU NEVER KNOW!  You may have an accident or just need a refresher.  I am also a mom, so any kind of wipes come in handy.
  5. I am a huge germ-a-phobe and again, a mom!  Hand santizer anywhere is a must have.  Think about it…You are spending your day touching rides, railings, playing games.  Imagine all the other people doing the exact same thing you are.  You do not know where their hands have been.  Any hand sanitizer will do, obviously Bath and Body Works are cuter and smell amazing!
  6. Who has time to retouch makeup when we’re having fun? Ain’t no one got time for that!!  Especially me. Lip balm and oil blotting sheets are all I need!  Right now I am carrying the BH Cosmetics oil blotting sheets.  They are compact, affordable, and it does the job I need it to do.  You really can’t go wrong!
  7. Phone/Camera for those memorable pictures!
  8. A refillable water bottle.  You will end up saving so much money!
  9. Change- specifically quarters and pennies!  I love hitting up the pressed penny machines for cheap souvenirs.

Alright, that’s it for my theme park essentials.  What do you usually bring with you at on days at theme parks?  I’d love to hear it!

The Ugly Truth…

Hi loves! We are back today with a more serious post. Over the past two weeks, I have been a bit disgusted with some posts that I have read in some Facebook groups. I think I have reached my “idgaf” point when it comes to these kind of posts. You are probably thinking, what posts is she talking about? Well, If you have been a long time follower of Makeupateers, then you know we are all about empowering and inspiring one another- not breaking someone down. There’s already so much hate in this world, why contribute to it?  Maybe it’s because I have grown up and see things see things differently, (who knows!?) but I guess that isn’t for me to decide.

Now, the reason for this post. As I said earlier, I am apart of some Facebook groups. For the most part, I am happy to be a part of them.  I have created some amazing friendships and most groups keep everything positive. Now, I am not saying every single group is rainbows and unicorns.  I mainly notice the cattiness and belittling more in the beauty groups I am in.  Depending on the post, the shit talking escalates pretty quick within a group of girls.  My question is why? Why the need for unnecessary comments?  Why does something negative have to come out anyway?

For those of you who are Teen Mom fans, you will probably know who Javi Maroqquin is. I, however, didn’t.  In one of the beauty groups I am in, a girl posted a picture of Javi with a girl.  Now, the original post was positive.  Basically asking others if they had seen the picture and that she was happy for him, because he genuinely looks happy with the mystery girl.

Javis-New-Girlfriend

This is the picture that was posted.  They look happy, right? The comment section quickly turned into a bash fest on this girl.  Making statements of ewww, ugly, or he is too cute for her.  Now, I don’t watch Teen Mom, so I don’t know his back story or how he ended up on Teen Mom, but whatever it maybe….he looks happy! Which is the reason behind the original post.  He has a new girlfriend and he looks happy!  It should have stayed that way.  Most people are judgmental.  I get it, it’s how we’re made.  We were also given the ability to choose the way we handle situations.  We can choose to keep our comments to ourselves.  It’s an opinion, fine!  But does it really need to be voiced?  No, it doesn’t.

What someone looks like, wears, dates, etc. really has no barring on our lives.   I fully believe that everyone should be treated with respect.  Being a kind and positive person is also very important.  Whenever I am in public, I make it a point to smile at everyone.  To you, that smile may not be much, but it could mean everything to the right person.  Also, instead of hating, why not try complimenting?  Anyone can put someone down, but it takes a better person to notice the beauty in everything. I dare you to give it a shot.  It can be something so simple as, “Your hair looks great!”  or “Your shirt is so cute!” There is something about every single person, place, or thing that has beauty! Just open your eyes a little more…

My Vision/Dreamboard

1454769347578.jpg

Hi loves!  I hope you are having a wonderful Friday!  I am back today with my dream/vision board and a simple easy way to create one yourself.  I have never done one before, but thought it would be a good idea to visualize my goals for this year.  Realistically, this may take a couple of years, but I am hopeful and determined.

I got the idea from one of my best friends.  My friend created one out of poster board, magazine clippings, printed off pictures, and phrases.  After two years she had accomplished everything on her vision board, so I thought, “why not?”

First, you want to get yourself in the right mindset- you want to fill that board full of positives! Next, figure out your goals/dreams. Once you have decided what goals/visions/dreams you want to hit, start adding them to your board.  Now, I am not a crafty at all- so a physical vision board was not something I wanted to do.  My best friend knew of my interest and linked me off to Hay House Vision Board App. You can find more on the app here.  The great thing about is it’s available on Apple and Android!

I created my dream board with specific goals in mind!  I was able to save my board and apply it as my background on my phone, so I see my goals daily!  After doing my goals post, I was inspired..

Goals

  1. Be happy in my own skin!
  2. NYC
  3. Hydrate & sleep more
  4. Disneyland
  5. Work on my blog more and become self hosted!
  6. Organize my life
  7. Debt free
  8. New car
  9. Washington DC
  10. Hike more
  11. Beauty room/office
  12. More family time
  13. Start planning my wedding
  14. Volunteer more
  15. Leavenworth, Washington

I am happy to report that by visualizing my goals, I have consistently been working towards making them all a reality.  As you can see above, a few of my items are crossed off due to completion.  I will be striking out at least 3 more within the next 2-3 months!  Whaaat?  How crazy is that?  I have planned out a 10 day Washington DC/Virginia Beach trip in May; I have 3 more credit cards to pay off and will be done.  I will also have my new  by then as well.  I am very happy with how my board turned out, and how it has helped me stay on track!  I think it has worked so well, that I am going to a create one dedicated solely to fitness!  Fingers crossed, it works just as well.

If you create dream/vision boards, please tag/comment/let me know!  I would love to see what you have created!!
