Sample Review- First Aid Beauty

We are back today with a “Sample Sunday” review on First Aid Beauty Banish Dry sample duo from Sephora.  About a week ago and half ago, we got hit with a really bad snow storm.  That winter storm caused my skin to really dry out. I decided to banish my dry skin away using this duo.  It was the perfect time to put it to the test.

First Aid Beauty Sample Deets:

The sample includes two, 2ml packet of FAB’s Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum and Ultra Repair Cream.

I’d suggest poking a hole in the packet with a needle. You can maximize your use to a couple of days.Because a little goes a long way with both of these products.   I was able to get 3 uses out of each packet.  I wish they would give at least two packets per each product, to get a full week of testing.  Let’s be real, a couple of days isn’t really enough to determine if a product works or not. At least, not with skincare.

My thoughts:

FAB’s Ultra Repair Cream is one of my favorite moisturizers.  I have repurchased it numerous times and I always keep a backup in my collection.  I have never tried the serum, but after trying it- I feel like I need to add it into my skincare routine.  It works that good!  The only con was a slight burning sensation, but that’s how you know it’s working, right?  At least, that’s what I think.

Overall, I really enjoyed this sample duo.  It’s a great sample to bring on overnight or weekend trip.  Especially for those with dry skin.  If you’ve tried these products before, how did you like them?  Do you have something else you would recommend for dry, flakey skin?

OGX Holiday Collection

It’s Hump day! We’re half way through the week and I hope you are all having an amazing week so far! Today we are introducing you the first ever OGX holiday collection, featuring some amazing holiday scents.  The collection is limited edition and only exclusive to Walmart.untitled-design

OGX beauty came out with three new scents for this holiday collection.  They are sulfate-free and SLS-free shampoos and conditioners.  OGX uses exotic ingredients to create their different scents.  OGX products do not test on animals and the packaging is eco-friendly- manufactured using materials containing recycled post consumer resin. Another great thing about the holiday collections is that each collection is made for different types of hair, so you should be able to find a holiday scent to match your type of hair.

ogx-dreamy-hydration-sugar-plum-shampooDreamy Hydration+Pink Sugar Plum Shampoo & Conditioner $5.74

Believe in the magic of the season and escape to a whimsical wonderland where your healthy-looking hair wishes come true.  Let this dreamy collection help moisturize and fill your strands with succulent dewy plums frosted with sprinkles of sweet coconut sugar and sparkling floral pink peony.

20161027_193006

Personally, pink sugar plum is my favorite.  If you have ever used Philosophy’s sugar plum fairy, you will definitely love this scent.  I actually think OGX is better and at a more affordable price.  Can’t beat that right?  I would highly suggest stocking up on these because, they are only available through December.

ogx-decadent-hydration-vanilla-chai-spice-shampooDecadent Hydration+ Vanilla & Chai Spice Shampoo & Conditioner $5.74

Indulge your strands and warm up your senses with this lightly hydrating duo.  With notes of warm vanilla bean laced with hints of ginger and invigorating chai spice, it’s a delicious treat with just enough spice to make everything nice and leave your hair wanting more.

My second favorite out of the three, but I am huge chai tea lover.  If you are not big on chai, I would skip this scent.

ogx-oppulent-hydration-champagne-fizz-shampooOpulen Hydration+Champagne Fizz Shampoo & Conditioner $5.74

Ring in the New Year with healthy-looking and hydrated strands when you pop open this bubbly and invigorating formula!  Quench your thirsty strands and tickle your senses with fizzy grapefruit, soft elder-flower and crisp white grape to mark new hair beginnings.

Champagne fizz is really a light and nice smell, it reminds me of Bath & Body works Champagne candle from last season- just a lot lighter.

I am planning on picking up a few more of these to add them into a beauty gift basket.  I love being able to customize gift baskets for my friends and co-workers.  Shampoo and conditioner is something everyone uses on a daily basis, why not gift them a set to get them through another month!

I hope you enjoyed this preview and mini review of my favorite scent from OGX beauty.  To learn more about the brand, you can check out their webpage here.

Lorac Mega Pro 3

Happy Monday loves! I hope you all had relaxing weekends. We are back today with a review and gift idea featuring the Lorac Mega Pro 3. For the past three seasons, Lorac has been coming out with 32 pan palettes, that contain 16 matte shadows and 16 shimmer shadows. One year they provided a warm tone palette and cool tone palette, this year they created the ultimate neutral palette 😍😍😍

LORAC MEGA PRO 3

For the quality and product you receive, this is such a great deal at $59.  It can still be found at local Ulta retail locations.  As I was saying above, it contains 32 neutral shadows.  It has a great mix of mattes and shimmer.  I know sometimes bigger palettes lack the quality we all expect from the brands, but I did not find that to be the case with the Mega Pro 3.  I actually own all three mega pro’s and by far this one is my favorite. I have gotten more use out of the mega pro 3 than the first and second one combined.  I know, I know, horrible!  I can’t help that I am a neutral lover, so this palette was right up my alley!

20161027_192827

This will make a great gift for someone starting in makeup, makeup enthusiasts, or someone in makeup artistry looking to build their kit.

From the picture shown, there are so many great colors to create numerous looks from everyday casual to full glam.  It’s also great for travel, because of how many shadows it contains.  Let’s not forget the huge mirror that comes in the palette.

One con or gripe I have with this palette is the packaging.  White and rose gold- super pretty, but also super easy to get dirty.  Once that starts happening, you really can’t restore it to it’s original form.

Other than that, you are good to go!  Get your gift shop on and grab one of these Lorac Mega Pro 3’s for that makeup lover in your life!

Travel Skincare Routine

Happy Labor Day!  I can’t believe it is already September.  Summer has definitely been flying by.  My family and I have been taking advantage of our summer together, by making little road trips here and there.  We do travel often, and I have learned that I like to pack as little as I can.  Through trial and error, I have found some amazing products that not only work, but are great for on the go.

UntitledYES TO TRAVEL FACE WIPES- $2.99         These are not really  a new discovery, but it is a travel essential for me.  I absolutely love Yes To products for everyday use.  I use them at home and on the go.  You can get bulk versions or travel sizes.  If you do not want to spend the extra money to buy the travel sizes, you can always take what you need from your normal packs and put them into a zip lock baggy.. Ta-Da–DIY travel makeup wipes.

My first discovery is a product from H2O+ Beauty. I’ve heard of this brand before, but have never really used the products before until now.  The products that I have had the opportunity to try have been pretty great.

raw-12ELEMENTS ON THE MOVE CLEANSING STICK– $28.00

This clever cleanser is a life saver.  It not only saves space, but is also saves cleansing time- at least to me.  In my pretty little head, I like to think that this product is cutting my cleansing time in half, but in reality it isn’t, because I still take a good minute to cleanse.  It does eliminate the prep time.  The design threw me off at off, because it looks like a deodorant- right?  Because of this design, it makes application/cleanser super easy.    All you do is wet your face, apply the cleansing stick in circular motion until it lathers- rinse your face and the stick..and you are done!  Simple enough.  The smell is nice and refreshing, if any of you were wondering.  I also love that the cleansing stick is infused with pearl extract and coconut oil.  Pearl extract and coconut oil are known to rejuvenate dry skin.  Which we all know I have!   As you can tell, I obviously love this product.  Not only for travel, but everyday use.  Especially, if you are too tired to do your entire routine.  At least wash you face! Perfect for the busy mom or busy women on the go!

8e893e6d880bfda3008b8e8da26ececb

OASIS ULTRA HYDRATING CREAM- $42.00

This product is not overly bulky for travel.  It fits really well in my travel makeup bag; where I keep my all my hygiene, skincare, and makeup for my trips.  I have never tried a gel based moisturizer before, but it made me my skin feel really rejuvenated.  Since it’s still summertime, this moisturizer feels great to put on during a hot day.  Also, very perfect for dry skin, and it adds a bit of a glow.

Product Overview:This rapidly absorbing gel is the perfect combo of rapidly-absorbing and long-lasting. The innovative formula, with Sea Grass and Water Lily extracts, acts as your skin-softening sidekick, giving you a surge of moisture that lasts all day

For me, a minimalist skincare routine has worked best while on the go during my vacations.  My family and I tend to over plan our vacations, because we want to see and do everything.  The extra few minutes help!  Do you do a full skincare routine while on vacation or do you have minimized version?  I’d love to hear your favorite skincare products and routine.

RealHer Cosmetics Haul & Review

Hi beauties!  Happy hump day!  I am back today with a mini beauty haul and review on a new to me cosmetics brand, called RealHer Cosmetics.   I am not really sure how I came across this brand, but totally fell in love with the message behind the brand.

RealHer, created in 2015, was all started because of a love for makeup.  RealHer also has a similar theme/message as we do here on Makeupateers.com.   RealHer is a brand that aims to inspire and empower women.  Since society has a set perception of what the ideal women should look like.  In reality, all women are beautiful in their own way.  RealHer wants women to know their worth- love yourself, be yourself, and embrace your beauty.  Define what beauty is to you.

cropped-screen-shot-2014-07-15-at-5-01-05-pm

Mission

Our mission is to empower and bring out the best in the modern woman: to know her worth, to feel proud of her individuality, to love each and every one of her flaws, and to not fear who she really is.

Although, RealHer is new, they are making strides in the beauty field to be makeup that inspires. This is a brand that is doing pretty amazing things in my eyes.  For every purchase made, RealHer donates 20% of all gross profits to American Association of University Women (AAUW).  The AAUW is a non-profit organization that provides a forward movement for Women and girls every where.  They do this by providing leadership, advocacy, education, and research programs.  You can locate a chapter near you here.

They are also certifies by CCIC and Leaping Bunny Association for their promise to use products and procedures that are not animal tested.

The products

wp-1469679308204.jpg RealHer Moisturizing lipsticks– $7.99

-enriched with shea butter, jojoba seed oil, macadamia oil, and vitamin E
Each color name is a quote to empower you.
Each color features a soft matte finish with an ever so slight gloss that glides onto the lips smoothly with a creamy rich color pigment.
– Free of parabens, Petro chemicals, synthetic fragrances, lead, talc, gluten, and phthalates.
wp-1469679308190.jpg
I got three out of the five colors that are offered.  Let me tell you, the packaging is very simple, but sleek.  All three colors I received are very pigmented, go on smoothly, with pretty good staying power.  I would agree that they are “soft matte” finish.  I am not one for matte lippies, because I have such dry lips.  I need moisture!  These lipsticks provide just that and at an affordable price.

In the slide above, I have provided lip swatches for your reference.  My favorite is, “I Define Beauty Myself”. It is the perfect everyday mauve.  If you have been a long time reader of my blog, you know that I am not one for bright or dark lippies, but I actually felt really comfortable in “I Am Powerful”.  It’s a bold color that I feel would look great on every skin tone.  “I Love Myself” washed me out when worn by itself, but I think when topped with a gloss- it will be absolutely beautiful.

I hope you all enjoyed this new brand overview, haul, and mini review.  I can’t wait to see what else RealHer has in store for the future.  I am an instant fan of this brand.  I love the product, but I also love what they stand for and what they do.  I hope you do too!  Let me know in the comments below what color was your favorite!

Sunglasses haul

Happy Tuesday, beauties! I am back today with a mini review and sunglasses haul from Sunglass Warehouse.  I first heard about Sunglass Warehouse from my fellow Makeupateer, Gaby from BeautybyGaby, she absolutely raved about them.  Of course, I had to give them a shot!

Sunglass Warehouse

  • All sunglasses are $20 or less.  I have yet to find a $20.00 pair.
  • Hundreds of styles to choose from
  • All lenses are made with UV400
  • Free shipping with a purchase of $25.00 or more, under $25.00 it’s on $3.95
  • No hassle returns!

One thing I absolutely love about the Sunglass warehouse website, is the ability to search the variety of glasses.  You can search by lens type, frame shape, and best sellers.  I have a really flat nose with literally no bridge to hold up glasses, so I am only able to wear a certain type of frame.

Here are the pieces I chose:

  1. Magdalena #7021- black/silver frame with smoke lenses
  2. Dew #18816- white/silver frame with Smoke lenses
  3. Winthrop #2642 toroise frame with blue mirrored lenses
  4. Honey #6040- Matte Black/Gold Frame with Grey lenses
  5. Canary #65830 tortoise frame with amber lenses

You can even choose different colors with different style lenses to make the glasses really unique to your style.  I have worn Dew and Canary almost everyday since receiving my shipment.  The quality in of the glasses are great.  With most glasses I purchase, the handles start to come loose.  This is not the case with the two pairs I have been infatuated with from Sunglass Warehouse.

I think I am obsessed because I made another order about a week ago!  I can’t wait for the package to come in.  Keep an eye out for some summer posts featuring the glasses.  I highly recommend this website. Check them out!  Let me know your favorite shades.  Don’t for get to #THEWAREHOUSE.

Let's Talk Lashes: My lash extension experience

Hi loves! First off, I would like to apologize for the absence. We have had some technical difficulty with our new server. The issues with the server caused our site to go down for a few days. While this is getting corrected, we’ve had to transfer our site back to wordpress.com. During that transition, we lost some content. I would like to apologize in advance, but we are working on getting everything back up and running.

One of the posts we lost was my lash extension story/review, so here we are again to talk lashes. One of the hottest trends going on right now are lash extensions. Being the beauty addict that I am, of course it was something I wanted to try. I attempted to make an appointment for a week straight with a lash boutique that came highly recommended. This particular lash boutique would not pick up their phone at all, and their voicemail box was full- this happened to be a blessing in disguise. I had the opportunity to meet an amazing sweet lady on Instagram, who just happens to run her own lash boutique. Kristi, Neat Lash Boutique owner, was also able to get me an appointment last minute before my vacation. I don’t know about you, but when I am on vacation, I just want to do minimal makeup. Having lash extensions help drastically with a minimalist look.

Kristi is the owner of Neat Lash Boutique in Multnomah Village, which has been open since early March. Kristi’s love for lashes started when she used to get them done herself and from there the love grew. After schooling, she started doing lashes at a lash boutique in Ashland, Oregon. After three years of perfecting her skill and building her clientele-Kristi decided to take her show on the road and moved to Portland. Kristi loves making women feel beautiful without having to do much to their current look.

Lash Application process

Prior to starting the procedure, Kristi was able to answer all questions I had regarding the materials used and lash horror stories. The lash horror stories were my main concern. Kristi explained why lashes fall out naturally, and why a bad lash extension experience would cause lashes to fall out.

During my appointment, I was advised that the appointment would take a minimum of two hours. The appointment takes this long because Kristi takes time to separate each individual lash to add the extensions. During the procedure, she walked me through the steps of application and continued to answer my random questions. At one point, I got so relaxed that I fell asleep. Kristi was really sweet about my snoring, lol.

Here is a front view of a before and after

I am on my third fill already. I guess you could say I am addicted to lash extensions.  It is recommended to get refills every 3-5 weeks to help keep them full.   I am loving how simple my beauty routine has been. I wake up everyday at 3:30 am to get ready for work. Anything I can do to catch a minute or two of extra z’s, I will do. If you live in Portland or visit the area- be sure to check out Neat Lash Boutique. You will not be disappointed!

What's new? Shu Uemura Kye Collection

Capture

Happy Monday! I am here today to talk about Shu Uemura’s new artist collection with Kathleen Kye- KYE Collection.  She is one of Korea’s hottest high-end street fashion creatives.  Kye states, “for this collaboration I want to showcase the k-vibe.  I want to express the energy of Seoul.”  I think she did just that with the innovative products and packaging design for this collection.

I like how she included so many things from the Korean culture in the packaging.  All of which have a special meaning behind it.  With that, it is really cool that they are blending the two cultures together in this collection.

Capture

When you think of Shu Uemura, the first thing that comes to mind is eyelash curlers and cleansing oils.  Shu Uemura cleansing oils have been around forever and are a cult favorite. So it was no surprise that they wanted to incorporate it into the KYE collection.

POREfinist anti-shine fresh cleansing oil 450ml

Porefinist anti-shine fresh cleansing oil- $31.00

The Porefinist anti-shine fresh cleansing oil is newly formulated to target the source of oil concerns.  It’s a water like substance that not only removes makeup, but washes away sebum and blackheads that get stuck in pores.  This allows for smaller pores and smoother skin.

The packaging is designed by Kathleen Kye herself especially for this collaboration.  It showcases the young generation in Seoul, Korea- with their high-end street style as inspiration.

**Ideal for normal to oily skin types and acne-prone skin**

I have dry to normal skin, and have had no problems using the cleansing oil.  I noticed a significant difference in blackheads in my nose area.  If you are more dry and do not want to try this particular cleansing oil; you can also try the ultime8 sublime beauty cleansing oil.

sheer color balm melt in orangeSheer color balm- $30.00

The next must try from the collection are the Sheer color balms.  They com in three different colors:  Glow in pink, Melt in Orange, and hugged in peach.  At first glance, glow in pink and melt in orange look a bit intimidating, because of how bright they are in the tube.

If you have ever tried Dior’s lip glow then you know how these lip balms work.  When the color is added to your lips, the balm reacts with your PH levels creating a unique wearable color made especially for you.

They are very moisturizing and smooth- maybe a little too smooth, because as soon as it hits your lips, it starts to melt.  It’s not too much of a problem, but remember to store them in a cool place.

Try not to go all crazy with application or you can end up looking like you drank some kool-aid, lol!

Here are some general swatches of the balms (right to left): Melt in Orange, Hugged in Peach, and Glow in Pink.

The Kye collection also includes cushion blushes, eye pencils, brow palettes, and an eyebrow gel.  Grab them while you can, because this collection is selling out fast.  You can find it on Shuuemura.com.

Not much of a makeup lover, but want something from the collection? Shu Uemura and KYE also collaborated on some amazing hair products found here.

I hope you enjoyed my review on this collection.  What is your favorite Shu Uemura product?

Happy Monday!

Jacki

What’s new?- Kate by Rimmel London

Happy Thursday, beauties!  Have any of you seen some of the new Rimmel Kate items?  Kate and Rimmel came out with some sculpting kits, a nude lipstick line, and a lip conditioning balm.

Kate Sculpting and Highlighting Kit $6.99

The sculpting kits come in three different shade combinations:

  • Golden Sands (light/fair skin tone)
  • Coral Glow (medium skin tone)
  • Golden Bronze (medium/olive skin tone)

I own golden sands and coral glow. As you can see in the picture above, the bronzers do not really work well with my skin tone, but the blush and highlighters are amazing!  The blushes provide a nice hint of color and work well on all skin tones.  Let’s talk highlighters…my new addiction as of late.  The highlighters in this kit provide a nice natural glow, nothing too overpowering.  I would say the Rimmel Sculpting kits are the best ones in the drugstores.  They are also very comparable to a few high end ones that I own.

Tip:  If you’re in a pickle the sculpting kits work great as an eyeshadow.  The bronzers make a good crease color.  The highlighter can be used in the inner corner tear ducts, brow highlight, or both.  Need a summery look?  Pop that coral on the lids..and wha la!

Lip Conditioning Balm by Kate Moss $5.49

My May favorites will be going live within the next couple of days, and you best believe that this little beauty is on it.  The conditioning lip balm is one of my holy grail items.  I keep it in my purse at all times.  I may or may not have went to five different Walgreens to buy back ups.  Yes, it is that good! Years ago, Mac cosmetics had a conditioning lip balm similar to this.  Yes, I was addicted to that as well, but I felt my lips were dependent on it after using it for a while.  My lips do not feel the same way after using the Rimmel conditioning balm.  Another plus, it is a quarter of the cost of the MAC lip balm.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection Lipstick $4.72

I own a lot of Rimmel Kate lipsticks, so I already knew that I would love these!  I am not a bright or real dark lippy lover at all.  I stick to the my lips but better shades, simply, because it is what I am comfortable wearing.  I also think it’s what looks best on me.   I own three out of the 10 shades available:   42, 45, and 48.  I am on now hunting for this collection in my local stores, but I haven’t had much luck.

As far as drugstore lipsticks go, I think Rimmel’s lippies are one of my top picks as far as affordability, selections, pigmentation, and all around formula.  I find them to be very smooth, creamy, and easy to apply.  If you are able to find these in your local store, grab them up!  You can also find them on Rimmel.com.

I hope you enjoyed my mini reviews on the new Rimmel Kate. Have you tried any of it?  I would love to know!  Leave a comment below!

Westmore Beauty: Coverage Perfector

Hi loves!  It has been a busy week so far, but I wanted to stop by to tell you about my favorite foundation of the moment !  I have had this foundation for a couple months, but didn’t really start putting it to the test until recently.  The foundation is from Westmore Beauty.  To be honest never heard of Westmore Beauty until I started shopping on QVC– that home shopping network addiction is real!

15398_content_Westmore-Beauty-ProductsWestmore Beauty – $$36.00:

Coverage perfector is a two in one product.  It acts as a foundation and concealer.  Depending on how much coverage you want, you can make it as light or as full coverage as you want.

Now every woman can easily experience Hollywood special effects in minutes. This foundation and concealer in one provides sheer to full coverage for skin that appears flawless and airbrushed. Built-in comfort technology lasts up to 24 hours without budging or transferring. Sits on skin like a second layer, bending and breathing with your skin without settling into fine lines and wrinkles. The luxuriously creamy and hydrating formula makes skin glow, for the radiant, head-turning look you expect from Hollywood celebrities walking the red carpet.

Includes:

  • 1-fl oz Coverage Perfector
  • Brush

The only con I can come up with is it only comes in five different colors:  fair, light, medium, tan, and deep.  Other than that, everything is really positive!  The packaging is great.  I love that it comes with a pump- I use 1-2 pumps, depending on my coverage.  I love the airbrushed finish it provides.  It really has become one of my holy grail foundations.

It has started getting really hot where I live, so I decided to put the foundation to the test!

16-05-07-11-57-10-015_photo.jpg
Start of the day 4AM

The second picture is left is right before my workout at 2:30.  Right is after- I think it held up pretty good for a 90 degree day and 1 hour of cardio!

I definitely recommend picking this foundation up!  It is one that will stay will in my collection for a long time to come.  If you already use it, leave me a comment below telling me how you like it!

Have a beautiful day!
